How to Uninstall a Program on Vista and Windows 7

Removing, changing, or uninstalling a program is an important thing that a Windows computer owner needs to learn. Before uninstalling a program, you need to be logged in as an administrator.

There are several options that you can choose from in uninstalling a program from your computer. Here are just some ways of how to do it:

1. Using the uninstall program option

  • Whether it’s on large or icon view, you will see a menu labeled “Programs and Features”. If you’re set on category view click “Uninstall a program” just under the programs menu.
  • Click it and you’ll be directed to the list of programs installed on your computer. Choose the one that you want to uninstall then click “Uninstall/change” button on top of the list.

On Windows Vista

The process is the same on Windows Vista.

  • Click the “Start” button then select “Control Panel” from the menu.
  • If you’re on classic view just double-click the “Programs and Features” option. Otherwise, you can click “Uninstall a program” under the Programs menu if you’re on Control Panel home view.
  • Select the program to remove/uninstall then click “Uninstall” button on top of the list. An alternative to this is by right clicking the program and choosing “Uninstall” on the pop-up window.

Other Steps You Can Try

There are times that a program doesn’t have an uninstall option on its directory folder or it does not appear on the list of programs that’s installed on your computer. In these cases, you can install the program again. Make sure that you restart your machine after installing the program. Once it turns on again you may again try both the steps detailed above.
