3 Easy Steps in Rating and Reviewing an App

Did you regret your decision of purchasing a paid app recently because of its poor performance? Have you been satisfied with an awesome free app that you downloaded today? These two things can happen to anyone who’s been installing some modern style app from the Windows Store and if in case any of these given situations happened to you, there’s a way for you to tell other users about your experience so they won’t get into the same ordeal of purchasing a useless app or let them share the joy of having an awesome free app installed into their Windows 8.1 machine by using the rating and review feature that is available on every app’s details screen. With this feature, you can give a rating to an app in the form of stars or give a personal review of it if you choose to really air out your disappointment or your being satisfied of its performance or the service it provided. To learn how you can give your comments, reactions and suggestions to an app, here are simple steps that you can follow.

1. Access the Windows Store

The very first step that you need to go through is to open the Windows Store. This could sound a bit intimidating especially if you are just starting to learn some basics. Windows Store is one of the built-in apps available on every Windows 8.1 machine. To access the tiles that represent these bundled apps, you can simply click on the Start Button located at the bottom-left corner of the screen or press the Windows key on your computer’s keyboard. After doing so, you should be able to access the Start Screen which bears all tiles (modern app shortcuts) for all the built-in apps and from here, click on the one that is labeled “Store”.

There will also be cases that you won’t find the Windows Store tile on the Start Screen because it might have been accidentally unpinned. If this is so then you can access it from the Apps view screen. To access this section on your Windows 8.1 machine, all you need to do is access the Start Screen and once you are on it, simply move the mouse pointer over it. You’ll then be able to see a round button with an arrow-down icon inside it that will appear at the bottom-left portion of the screen.

Just click on it and you will be able to access the Apps view screen where you’ll have access to the shortcuts of all the apps, desktop programs and even system locations on your Windows 8.1 machine and this includes the Windows Store which should be under the “Shopping” apps category.

This is a very good shortcut for accessing one of the most important feature in every Windows 8.1 computer that you should not miss so be sure to update your Windows 8.1 machine now to get a thumbnail for Windows Store pinned on your computer’s taskbar.

2. Access Your List of Installed Apps

After learning how to open the Windows Store, you will need to find the app that you recently installed on to your computer. If you already uninstalled it, you need to make sure that you know the name of the app with the exact spelling of it and enter this information into the Search input box. After doing so, a white box will appear that will contain a short list of search results. If the app that you are looking for is already on this list, simply click or tap on it so you can access its detail screen where you can rate it or give a review to it. On the screenshot below, I searched for an app which I recently uninstalled and as you can see, it got displayed on the quick search results box right away.

Now, if the app that you want to give a rate or review for is still installed on your Windows 8.1 machine, you can simply access it from the account section by clicking on the “Account” link located on the top bar of the Windows Store screen and after you do so, there will be two other links that will appear at the bottom of the bar which are labeled “My apps” and “My account”. From here, just click on the one that says “My apps” so you can access the list of all the installed apps on your computer and once the this list appears, just click on the app that you want to give a rate or review for.

After doing so, you will be able to access the app’s details and descriptions screen where the ratings and reviews from other users would also appear. Just get familiar with how they gave their reviews and ratings first before you go on to give yours. Once you have an idea and you are ready to give your review to a certain app that you installed on your computer, you can now move on to the next step.

3. Giving a Rate and Review for an Installed App

Now that you are ready to give a rate or review to an app that you installed to your Windows 8.1 machine, it is time to learn all the steps involved. First, you will need to locate the tile that will open the app. Windows 8.1 hides all of the shortcuts for your newly installed modern style apps in the Apps view screen instead of pinning a tile right away as was the case back in Windows 8. To look for the newly installed app that you want to rate and review, simply go to the Apps view screen, look for its shortcut and once you find it, simply click or tap on it so it opens. Once the app is open, just access the Settings charm through the Charms bar or press the “Windows + I” keys ad hit “Rate and Review” on the settings screen that appears on the right edge of your computer’s monitor.

After doing so, you will be taken to the screen that is labeled “Write a review” and from here, all you need to do is first shade the number of stars that would correspond to the rating that you want to give where 1 is the lowest while 5 is the highest and afterwards, you can start typing in your review by first starting with a title then the comments. Remember that you are only limited to a maximum of 1,000 characters on your review so be sure to make it clear but concise. After entering all of these required information, just click on the “Submit” button which is located at the bottom and that’s it! Your rate and review will now appear on the app’s details screen.
