Our Mission

WindowsTechies exists to make Windows expertise accessible to everyone. We believe that you shouldn’t need a computer science degree to keep your PC running smoothly, stay secure online, or make informed decisions about PC software and hardware.

Since our founding in 2012, we’ve helped over 100,000 users solve Windows problems, optimize their systems, and make confident purchasing decisions. Our guides are read by everyone from complete beginners to experienced IT professionals looking for reliable references.

Who We Are

We’re a team of Windows experts, tech writers, and software testers who are passionate about empowering users with knowledge. Our team has collectively spent over 50 years working with Windows systems in various capacities – from corporate IT to software development to technical support.

What Makes Us Different

We Actually Test Everything

Unlike many tech sites that republish press releases or copy product descriptions, we hands-on test every product we review. Our testing process typically takes 2-4 weeks per product, including real-world usage scenarios, performance benchmarking, and security assessments.

We Don’t Play Favorites

Yes, we earn commissions from affiliate links when you purchase products we recommend. But we’ll always be honest when a product isn’t worth your money, even if it means losing potential commission. Our reputation is worth more than any affiliate payment.

We Explain, Don’t Just Instruct

Our guides don’t just tell you which buttons to click – we explain why you’re doing something and what it means. We believe understanding the “why” helps you become more confident and independent with your PC.

We Keep Content Updated

Windows changes. Software updates. Best practices evolve. We review and update our content quarterly to ensure you’re getting current, accurate information. You’ll always see a “last updated” date on our articles.

Our Content Philosophy

Helpful, Not Condescending

We remember what it’s like to be a beginner. Our guides use everyday language and explain jargon when technical terms are necessary. We never make readers feel stupid for not knowing something.

Solution-Focused

We write about real problems that real users face. Every guide is designed to help you accomplish a specific goal or solve a specific problem – no filler content.

Honest and Transparent

We clearly disclose when we earn commissions. We update articles when we discover new information or better solutions. We acknowledge when we make mistakes and correct them promptly.

Tested and Verified

Every how-to guide has been tested on actual Windows systems. Every recommendation is based on hands-on experience, not marketing materials or hearsay.

Our Editorial Standards

Testing Process

For software reviews:

  1. Minimum 2 weeks of real-world testing
  2. Testing on multiple systems (older and newer PCs)
  3. Performance benchmarking before and after
  4. Security and privacy assessment
  5. Customer support evaluation
  6. Value-for-money analysis

For guides:

  1. Step-by-step testing on actual Windows systems
  2. Verification with multiple Windows versions
  3. Review by second team member
  4. User feedback integration

Accuracy Commitment

  • All technical claims are verified through testing or authoritative sources
  • We cite sources for statistics and third-party information
  • Guides are reviewed quarterly and updated as needed
  • Corrections are made promptly when errors are discovered

Independence

While we earn affiliate commissions, this doesn’t influence our editorial decisions. We’ve given negative reviews to products with lucrative affiliate programs and positive reviews to products with minimal or no affiliate potential.

Our Revenue Model

We’re transparent about how we make money:

Affiliate Commissions: When you purchase software or products through our links, we may earn a commission at no extra cost to you. This is our primary revenue source.

How This Works: We only recommend products we’ve tested and genuinely believe in. Your purchase through our links helps keep WindowsTechies free for everyone.

What We Don’t Do: We don’t accept paid reviews, sponsored content, or payment for specific product placements. All reviews reflect our honest assessment after hands-on testing.
